Nyamira Farmer Wins Motorcycle in Anti-Counterfeit Seed Campaign
A farmer from Manga Sub-county in Nyamira County is celebrating after winning a motorcycle in a national campaign aimed at promoting the use of genuine agricultural inputs.
Richard Atambo emerged the winner during the anti-counterfeit seed campaign organized by Bayer East Africa Kenya, with the prize presented at the company’s offices in Kisii on Thursday, April 23, 2026.
Atambo, visibly elated, said the motorcycle would significantly ease his farm operations and transportation needs. He noted that access to reliable transport will help him move farm produce to markets more efficiently while also expanding his farming activities.
The campaign, spearheaded by Bayer, seeks to curb the circulation of counterfeit seeds in the market—an issue that has long affected farmers through poor yields and financial losses. By encouraging farmers to purchase certified seeds, the initiative aims to boost productivity and safeguard livelihoods.
Speaking during the event, Bayer representatives emphasized the importance of using authentic agricultural inputs, noting that counterfeit seeds not only undermine food security but also erode farmers’ trust in the agricultural sector.
Atambo displayed the motorcycle after receiving it, drawing admiration from fellow farmers and stakeholders who attended the ceremony. He urged other farmers to remain vigilant and only buy seeds from accredited dealers to avoid falling victim to fraud.
The initiative continues to gain traction across the country, with stakeholders hopeful it will significantly reduce the prevalence of fake seeds and improve agricultural output.
