New Kenya Dairy Board Takes Charge, CS Kagwe Calls for Farmer-Focused Results
Kenya’s dairy sector is set for renewed oversight following the inauguration of the new Kenya Dairy Board, with the first board meeting chaired by Sen. Mutahi Kagwe alongside PS Jonathan Mueke.
The new board is tasked with strengthening regulation, improving milk quality standards, and supporting growth across the dairy industry, signaling a government push to protect both farmers and consumers.
During the engagement, CS Kagwe and the board leadership toured the National Dairy Regulatory Laboratory, reaffirming the government’s commitment to ensuring milk safety and enforcing robust regulatory standards.
Speaking to staff, CS Kagwe emphasized that the success of the dairy sector begins with efficient and accountable institutions. “Officers must uphold professionalism, integrity, and accountability to ensure dairy farmers receive fair opportunities in the market, better services, and a supportive regulatory environment,” he said.
The leadership transition marks a renewed focus on creating a more organized, profitable, and farmer-centric dairy sector, aiming to enhance service delivery, improve market standards, and ultimately boost incomes for Kenya’s dairy farmers.
Officials noted that under the new board, regulatory measures will be enforced more strictly while initiatives to support farmers’ access to markets and value addition will be prioritized, reflecting the government’s long-term strategy to grow the dairy industry sustainably.
