Massive Voter Registration Drive Launched in Marakwet West After Gazettement of 23 New Polling Centres
Residents of Marakwet West have been called upon to turn out in large numbers for the ongoing voter registration exercise following the gazettement of 23 new polling centres in the constituency.
Marakwet West Member of Parliament, Timothy Toroitich, urged residents—especially those living within areas served by the newly established polling stations—to seize the opportunity and register as voters. He noted that increased registration would not only enhance democratic participation but also validate the need for the additional polling centres.
Citing Section 38A of the Elections Act, Toroitich emphasized that each polling station is required to serve no more than 700 voters to ensure efficiency and smooth electoral processes. He said the creation of new polling centres is a strategic move aimed at reducing congestion and bringing electoral services closer to the people.
“The residents living within the newly gazetted polling centres should turn out in large numbers and register. This will cement and further justify the need for these new stations,” he stated.
Toroitich further appealed to all eligible voters across Marakwet West to participate actively in the registration exercise, highlighting the critical role of voter turnout in shaping leadership and governance.
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) recently gazetted the new polling centres as part of broader efforts to improve voter accessibility ahead of upcoming elections.
Local leaders and electoral officials have intensified awareness campaigns across the constituency, expressing optimism that the new centres will boost registration numbers and ensure more inclusive participation in the electoral process
