Kapcherop Innovators Build Helicopter Prototype, Set to Present It at Empowerment Event

Two local innovators from Kapcherop have attracted attention after reportedly developing a locally assembled helicopter prototype, which they now plan to present at an upcoming public empowerment event.

Ezron Kipchumba and Patrick Ouma, both based in Elgeyo Marakwet County, say they have spent months working on the aircraft project, which they describe as a homegrown engineering effort aimed at showcasing local talent and innovation in aviation and mechanical design.

According to the duo, the prototype was developed through self-driven research, community support, and locally sourced materials, with the goal of demonstrating that young people in rural areas can contribute to advanced technological innovation.

“We wanted to prove that innovation is possible even at the grassroots level. This is about creativity, determination, and pushing the limits of what people think is possible,” Kipchumba said.

Ouma added that the project was motivated by a desire to inspire youth in the region to pursue science, engineering, and technical skills, noting that many young people often lack exposure to practical innovation opportunities.

The two innovators are now preparing to present the aircraft during the Tsunami Music Empowerment event scheduled to take place in Kapcherop, where they intend to showcase the prototype to attendees and invited guests.

Among those expected to attend is Kapseret Member of Parliament Oscar Sudi, who is set to be the chief guest at the empowerment event, which combines entertainment with youth and economic empowerment initiatives.

Organizers of the event say the platform is designed to highlight local talent across different sectors, including music, entrepreneurship, and innovation. The inclusion of the helicopter project has generated significant curiosity among residents and observers.

Community members in Kapcherop have expressed mixed reactions, with some praising the effort as a bold demonstration of creativity, while others have called for further technical verification and expert evaluation of the project before it is publicly showcased as a functional aircraft.

Local leaders have also encouraged innovators to collaborate with technical institutions and aviation experts to ensure safety standards and engineering compliance are properly assessed, especially for projects involving aircraft design.

The presentation is expected to draw large crowds, as residents anticipate seeing the prototype and hearing more about the inspiration and technical process behind its development.

If confirmed and further developed with professional support, the initiative could mark one of the rare grassroots engineering projects in the region, potentially opening discussions on youth innovation hubs and investment in local technical research.

The empowerment event in Kapcherop will bring together artists, youth groups, entrepreneurs, and community leaders under the broader theme of talent development and economic empowerment.
