DCI Queens Power Into Knockouts After Thrilling Four-Set Win Over Nigeria Customs

Kenya’s DCI Queens have continued their impressive run at the continental stage after sealing a hard-fought four-set victory over Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) in their final Pool C match at the 2026 CAVB Women’s African Volleyball Club Championship.

The victory, achieved in a high-intensity encounter, saw the Kenyan side demonstrate resilience, tactical discipline, and superior game management to secure their place in the Round of 16 and maintain their strong championship momentum.

From the opening whistle, the DCI Queens set the tone early, dominating the first set 25-17 with sharp service pressure and aggressive net play that unsettled the Nigerian side. Their coordinated attacks and solid defensive structure allowed them to control the pace of the game.

However, the Nigeria Customs Service responded strongly in the second set, capitalizing on a brief lapse in concentration from the Kenyan side. In a closely contested battle that swung point-for-point, the Nigerians edged the set 26-24, leveling the match and briefly shifting momentum.

Despite the setback, the DCI Queens quickly regrouped, showing composure and mental strength in the third set. They tightened their defensive organization and improved their attacking efficiency, regaining control to take the set 25-19.

The fourth set saw the Kenyan champions fully assert their dominance. With improved coordination, sharp transitions, and sustained pressure from both service and attack, the Queens raced ahead early and never looked back, closing out the match 25-16 to secure a 3–1 victory.

The result not only extended their winning streak but also confirmed their qualification for the knockout stage of the tournament, where they will face tougher opposition starting in the Round of 16.

Speaking after the match, Head Coach Patrick Sang praised the team’s resilience and steady improvement throughout the pool stage, expressing confidence ahead of the knockout rounds.

“The girls have shown great resilience and growth with every match. Finishing the pool stage this strongly is a big boost for us,” said Sang. “We are now shifting focus to the knockout phase, and I am confident we will rise to the challenge and perform exemplarily well.”

The DCI Queens have been one of the standout teams of the tournament so far, combining discipline, teamwork, and tactical sharpness to overcome strong continental opponents and establish themselves as serious title contenders.

Their progression into the knockout stages sets up an exciting next phase, where competition is expected to intensify as the team continues its quest for continental glory.

As the Round of 16 approaches, the Kenyan side carries not only momentum but also growing confidence, having delivered consistent performances that underline their ambition in the 2026 championship.
