DCI Queens Jet to Cairo for African Club Championship Debut
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Queens Volleyball Team has officially departed the country for Cairo, Egypt, where they are set to compete in the prestigious African Women’s Club Championship.
The 14-player squad was flagged off on Saturday by Deputy Director of DCI, John Onyango, in a ceremony marked by optimism and high expectations. Onyango praised the team’s discipline, resilience, and unity, urging them to represent the institution and the country with pride on the continental stage.
“Every serve, every block, every point you win in Cairo will echo the strength and pride of the DCI back home,” he said, emphasizing the importance of teamwork and cohesion in achieving success.
He reiterated the Directorate’s full support, noting that the players carry not only their personal ambitions but also the hopes of the entire DCI fraternity.
DCI Sports Officer Muriuki Raria, who was also present during the send-off, encouraged the team to remain united and determined throughout the tournament. He reminded them that beyond their jerseys, they embody the spirit and pride of the institution.
The team heads into the competition buoyed by strong chemistry, having played together since 2018. Their qualification for the continental championship followed an impressive campaign last season, where they finished second behind Kenya Pipeline Volleyball Club.
Key players expected to spearhead the team’s campaign include opposite hitter Mercy Iminza, middle blockers Caroline Sirengo and Lydia Iswan, as well as outside hitters Daisy Jepkorir and Sarah Namisi. Their experience is expected to be crucial as the team faces some of Africa’s top volleyball clubs.
Speaking ahead of departure, one of the players described the tournament as more than just a competition, but a chance to showcase the team’s identity and unity.
The DCI Queens have since safely arrived in Cairo and have already begun early preparations, fine-tuning their tactics as they gear up for their historic debut on the continental stage.
