County, Brand Ambassador Align Ahead of Rehabilitation Graduation in Uasin Gishu

Officials in Uasin Gishu County have intensified preparations for an upcoming rehabilitation graduation ceremony, following a consultative meeting between county leadership and a key youth ambassador aimed at ensuring a successful and impactful event.

The County Director in charge of the Uasin Gishu Alcoholic Drinks Control Board, Koiya Maiyo, hosted County Drug Abuse Brand Ambassador Thomas Kipkemboi—popularly known as Kapkeno Jazz—during a courtesy visit focused on finalizing plans for the graduation ceremony scheduled for Friday.

The meeting brought together key stakeholders to align on critical elements of the event, including mentorship programs, post-rehabilitation support, and long-term community reintegration strategies for recovering clients. Officials noted that the graduation marks an important milestone in the county’s efforts to combat substance abuse and support recovery.

A total of 13 individuals who have successfully completed treatment at the Uasin Gishu County Rehabilitation and Treatment Centre are set to graduate as part of the seventh cohort. The ceremony will officially mark their transition back into society, where they are expected to reunite with their families and begin rebuilding their lives.

Speaking after the meeting, Maiyo emphasized the importance of coordinated planning in delivering a meaningful event that not only celebrates recovery but also reinforces continued support systems for beneficiaries.

“This engagement is key to ensuring the graduation is impactful and well-organized. The involvement of our brand ambassador strengthens our advocacy efforts and inspires confidence among those on the recovery journey,” he said.

On his part, Kipkemboi underscored the role of mentorship and lived experience in encouraging individuals undergoing rehabilitation. He noted that public figures and community influencers have a responsibility to champion positive behavioral change and reduce stigma surrounding addiction and recovery.

The county government has been actively investing in rehabilitation programs as part of a broader strategy to address drug and alcohol abuse, particularly among the youth. Officials say the integration of mentorship and community-based support is critical in preventing relapse and promoting sustainable recovery.

The upcoming graduation is expected to draw leaders, families, and community members, serving not only as a celebration of personal transformation but also as a platform to raise awareness on the importance of rehabilitation and second chances.

As the county continues to strengthen its fight against substance abuse, leaders expressed optimism that such initiatives will contribute to healthier communities and offer renewed hope to individuals seeking a fresh start.
