Chaos in Kesses as Residents Stone Governor’s Convoy Over Alleged Misuse of County Vehicles

Tension erupted in Bayete area of Kesses Sub-County, Uasin Gishu County, after angry residents stoned and vandalised vehicles linked to the county government, accusing the governor of using public resources for personal political campaigns.

The confrontation unfolded during a roadshow that quickly descended into chaos as residents, some chanting anti-government slogans, turned on the governor’s convoy. Witnesses say the crowd expressed frustration over what they described as years of neglect, claiming the governor had failed to visit or address their concerns since assuming office.

“They only remember us when elections are near,” one resident shouted as stones were hurled at the passing vehicles.

Images from the scene show a damaged Toyota Fortuner with a shattered rear windscreen, alongside another vehicle branded with the slogan “Niko Kadi Je Wewe?”—both bearing visible impact marks consistent with stone-throwing.

Residents reportedly targeted vehicles they believed were being used for campaign purposes, questioning why county assets were allegedly deployed in what appeared to be political mobilisation.

“What angered people most is that these are public vehicles, bought using taxpayers’ money,” said another witness. “They should not be used for campaigns.”

The unrest forced the governor’s team to cut short the visit and retreat from the area as tensions escalated.

The incident has sparked fresh debate over accountability and the use of public resources, with calls growing louder for transparency from county leadership.

As of now, authorities have not issued an official statement regarding the violence or the allegations of misuse of government vehicles, leaving residents and observers awaiting clarification on the unfolding controversy.
