Veteran Security and Disaster Management Expert Pius Masai Mwachai Continues to Shape Safety Standards in Kenya
Renowned safety, security, anti-terrorism, and disaster management expert Pius Masai Mwachai continues to play a significant role in strengthening professional standards and disaster preparedness in Kenya and beyond.
Mwachai, a retired senior police officer, has built a distinguished career spanning decades in security, emergency management, and international peace support operations. Currently serving as the President of the PIMAC International Consortium Professionals Consortium Worldwide, he remains actively involved in professional training, policy development, and international collaboration on safety and disaster management issues.
An experienced emergency responder, Mwachai holds qualifications including EMS-I and EMT, reflecting his strong background in emergency medical services and crisis response. His expertise has earned him national recognition, including the Order of the Grand Warrior (OGW), one of Kenya’s prestigious state honors.
Mwachai also serves as a National Technical Committee Member at the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS), where he contributes to the development of critical national standards. Within KEBS, he participates in several technical committees, including Disaster Management, Health and Safety, Fire Fighting Equipment and Fire Suppression, and Handling and Transport of Dangerous Goods.

He has also written more than 16 books, covering topics related to safety, security operations, and disaster preparedness.

He served as a Police Advisor with United Nations Peace Support Operations in Europe, specifically in Croatia and Bosnia-Herzegovina, contributing to international peacekeeping and post-conflict stabilization efforts.
In Kenya, he previously held key national roles including Director of the National Disaster Management Unit (NDMU) and Head of Disaster Management at the National Police Academy in Kiganjo. He also led the Traffic Faculty at the academy, where he helped train generations of law enforcement officers.
