Three Killed, 17 Injured in Multi-Vehicle Crash Near Kisumu Airport
Three people have died and at least 17 others were injured following a multi-vehicle accident at Otonglo near Kisumu International Airport in Kisumu.
The crash involved two tuk-tuks and a public service matatu, leaving several passengers trapped in the wreckage as emergency responders rushed to the scene to rescue victims.
A total of 20 casualties were evacuated to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital for urgent medical attention.
Hospital officials confirmed that three people — two adult men and one woman — lost their lives following the accident. One victim was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital, while two others succumbed to their injuries while receiving emergency treatment.
Seventeen survivors are currently undergoing treatment at the facility. According to medical staff, the injured include nine adult men and five women aged between 22 and 44 years.
Three children aged three, six and seven years are also among those admitted for care.
Doctors reported that some victims sustained serious injuries, including femur fractures and severe bleeding. At least three patients were taken into emergency surgery, while five others were admitted for further management.
Authorities have launched investigations to establish the circumstances that led to the crash.
