Sifuna Slams Leaders for “Mocking Baba’s Legacy,” Demands Respect for Raila’s Vision

ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna has accused a section of political leaders of attempting to distort the intentions and legacy of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, saying recent remarks and actions by some politicians amount to “mocking Baba’s legacy while pretending to honor him.”

Sifuna through a Facebook  said the instructions left by Odinga regarding political reforms and progress accountability were clear and should not be manipulated for political convenience.

“Today we have woken up to leaders swearing in Baba’s name while at the same time mocking everything he stood for,” Sifuna said. “You do not have to be an English professor to understand what Baba wanted. It is there in black and white.”

According to the ODM Secretary General, Odinga had laid out a straightforward framework for accountability and transparency. Sifuna said the directive required periodic progress updates and a final report to the public.

“The instructions were simple,” he said. “Progress reports were to be presented to him every two months, and the final report was to be delivered to the public last Saturday. That was the commitment.”

Sifuna criticized what he described as attempts by some leaders to reinterpret or alter those instructions after the fact.

“Now we are seeing people putting words in a dead man’s mouth,” he said. “They want to twist Baba’s vision to suit their current political interests. That is unacceptable.”

He urged leaders across the political divide to respect the legacy and principles Odinga championed throughout his political career, particularly the call for accountability, justice, and democratic reforms.

“Baba spent his entire life fighting for a better and more transparent Kenya,” Sifuna said. “The least we can do is respect what he clearly stated and stop the political games.”

Sifuna also called on supporters of the ODM party and Kenyans at large to remain vigilant and demand honesty from leaders claiming to carry forward Odinga’s vision.

“If you truly believe in Baba’s ideals, then stand for the truth,” he said. “Do not allow anyone to rewrite history or manipulate his words for personal gain.”

He concluded his remarks with a direct appeal to Odinga’s supporters.

“Give us a signal, Jakom,” Sifuna said, invoking one of Odinga’s widely used nicknames among supporters. “The people who believed in you are watching, and they know what you stood for.”
