Moi University Student Drowns at Kesses Falls Amid Heavy Rains
The body of a third-year male student from Moi University has been recovered after he drowned in River Kesses while swimming with friends on Sunday.
According to eyewitnesses, the student was swept away by strong currents shortly after entering the water at Kesses Falls. Local authorities say the river’s flow had intensified due to recent heavy rains in the region, making it particularly dangerous.
Residents and emergency responders launched a search operation immediately, which lasted several hours. The body was eventually recovered downstream on Monday morning and has been taken to a nearby mortuary for postmortem examination and official identification.
Police have issued a warning to the public, urging caution when near rivers and waterfalls during the rainy season. “Rising water levels and strong currents can be life-threatening, even in areas that appear safe,” a local officer stated.
The university community has been left reeling from the tragedy, with students and staff extending their condolences to the family of the deceased. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
