Malava Aspirant John Wanyama Questions NG-CDF Bursary Promise

Malava Constituency aspirant and Citizen TV journalist John Wanyama has questioned the decision to promise students a KSh 6,000 bursary before verifying the financial status of the National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF).

Speaking on the matter, Wanyama said leadership must be built on honesty and responsibility rather than excuses, especially when dealing with issues that directly affect education and the welfare of families.

He raised concern that if the constituency leadership was aware that the NG-CDF accounts were in disarray and required proper auditing, then it was irresponsible to make public promises to parents and students without first confirming the available funds.

“Responsible leadership requires understanding the situation first before making public promises,” Wanyama said. “Education is a sensitive matter that should never be used for political excitement or premature declarations.”

According to the aspirant, many parents in Malava relied on the promise when planning how to pay school fees for their children. With the situation now appearing uncertain, he said the community deserves clear and honest communication from the leadership.

Wanyama emphasized that Malava residents are not interested in propaganda or political blame games from any side. Instead, he said, the people want transparency, accountability, and practical solutions to ensure students receive the support they were promised.

“Malava parents did not imagine the promise. It was publicly communicated. Now that the reality appears different, the focus should be on transparency and solutions rather than blaming others,” he added.

He urged leaders to prioritize the education of children in the constituency and to provide timely support to families who depend on bursaries to keep their children in school.

Wanyama maintained that the future of Malava’s students should remain a top priority and called for responsible leadership that places the interests of the community first.
