KCA University Registered as Qualification Awarding Body in Major Milestone for Kenya’s Education Sector

KCA University has achieved a significant milestone after being officially registered as a Qualification Awarding Body (QAB) on the National Qualifications Database (NQD), under the Kenya National Qualifications Framework (KNQF). The recognition, granted by the Kenya National Qualifications Authority (KNQA), underscores the university’s commitment to quality education and alignment with national standards.

The certification was formally presented at the university’s main campus during a ceremony led by KNQA Council Chair Hon. Stanley Kiptis and Director-General/CEO Dr. Alice Kande. The KCA University leadership, headed by Vice Chancellor Prof. Isaiah I. C. Wakindiki, received the QAB Certificate in the presence of staff and stakeholders.

Speaking during the event, Hon. Kiptis commended KCA University for its dedication to compliance and quality assurance. He encouraged other institutions to follow suit, noting that despite progress, more effort is required to fully implement the KNQF. He highlighted that current statistics on registered QABs, qualifications, and graduate records indicate that the country still has substantial ground to cover.

Dr. Kande echoed these sentiments, congratulating the university on what she described as a landmark achievement that firmly positions KCA University within the national qualifications system. She emphasized the importance of curriculum reforms, urging institutions to adopt notional learning hours as a measure of total learner workload in line with KNQF standards.

She further noted that KNQA is working closely with the Commission for University Education (CUE) to ensure consistency and alignment in curriculum development and quality assurance across the higher education sector.

During the ceremony, Dr. Kande also invited KCA University to participate in the inaugural National Qualifications Conference scheduled for May 12–14, 2026. She described the upcoming forum as a vital platform for stakeholders to engage in meaningful discussions aimed at advancing Kenya’s qualifications framework.

The inclusion of KCA University as a QAB reflects its adherence to national benchmarks and its commitment to producing graduates whose qualifications meet industry and workforce demands. The development is expected to enhance trust, comparability, and international recognition of the university’s academic programs.

KNQA reaffirmed its mandate to safeguard the integrity and quality of qualifications in Kenya, noting that ongoing efforts to onboard institutions onto the National Qualifications Database will strengthen the credibility of academic offerings nationwide.

As Kenya continues to build a demand-driven education and training system, the recognition of institutions like KCA University marks a step forward in promoting lifelong learning and supporting national development goals.
