President William Ruto Commissions Roysambu Military Housing Project
President William Ruto has commissioned the Roysambu Military Camp Housing Project in Nairobi County, marking a significant milestone in the government’s Affordable Housing Programme and its commitment to improving the welfare of members of the disciplined forces.
Speaking during the event, the President said the government is leveraging public-private partnerships to accelerate the delivery of affordable housing across the country. He noted that the inclusion of officers from the disciplined forces in the housing agenda is a deliberate effort to reverse years of neglect that had normalised poor living conditions for security personnel.
“We have deliberately included our officers in the disciplined forces in our housing agenda to reverse the long-standing culture that normalised poor living conditions for those who protect our nation,” he said.
The Roysambu project, a 500-unit development under phase one, will provide modern and dignified accommodation for military officers and their families. The broader first phase of the military housing programme comprises 3,069 housing units being constructed in Roysambu, Nanyuki, Gilgil, Lanet and Mariakani. The units are expected to be completed by June this year.
In addition to commissioning the phase one units at Roysambu, President Ruto also laid the foundation stone for phase two of the project, signalling the expansion of the initiative.
Under phase two, the government plans to construct 10,000 housing units in military installations across the country. The President said the move will significantly improve the welfare and morale of servicemen and women.
He emphasised that providing decent housing for members of the armed forces is not a privilege but a right, underscoring the government’s commitment to restoring dignity to those tasked with safeguarding the nation.
The military housing initiative forms part of the broader Affordable Housing Programme, which aims to increase access to decent and affordable homes while stimulating economic growth through partnerships with the private sector.
