Oketch Salah Reaffirms Loyalty to ODM, Addresses Tensions with Wanga

Digital strategist and political activist Oketch Salah has issued a public statement reaffirming his loyalty to the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) while addressing concerns surrounding his recent activities and remarks involving Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga.

In the statement, Salah said his political engagement has been driven by a single objective: strengthening and popularising ODM, particularly at the grassroots level. He emphasized his deep belief in the party’s history, values and mission, noting that his actions were intended to energize and refresh the movement.

Salah offered an apology to Governor Wanga, acknowledging that his actions may have caused offence. He said hurting her was never his intention and expressed regret if his conduct was interpreted otherwise.

“I sincerely apologize,” he said, adding that any misunderstanding arose in the course of his efforts to support the party.

Addressing questions about funding, Salah clarified that all resources used in his political activities were personal. He stated that he had neither requested nor utilized ODM party funds, describing his efforts as a personal contribution to a party he respects and believes in.

He further underscored that his commitment to ODM is rooted in loyalty to party leader Raila Odinga, whom he referred to as “Baba.” Salah revealed that he made a personal promise to stand with ODM during a time they spent together in India, a pledge he says continues to guide his political stance.

Salah described ODM as a central part of Odinga’s life’s work and said he considers it his duty to help protect, support and strengthen the party in honour of that legacy.

“I remain ODM. I believe in ODM,” he concluded, affirming that his continued support is motivated by love for the party and respect for its leadership.

The statement comes amid ongoing internal debates within ODM over strategy, leadership influence and grassroots mobilisation as the party prepares for future political contest
