NOCK Meets CAVB Officials to Plan for 2026 Women’s African Nations Volleyball Championship

National Olympic Committee of Kenya (NOCK) 1st Deputy President Barnaba Korir today held high-level talks with officials from the Confederation of African Volleyball (CAVB) as Kenya intensifies preparations to host the 2026 Women’s African Nations Volleyball Championship.

The CAVB delegation was led by Zone V President Nasir Sadik and included CAVB Sports Coordinator Walter Otieno, alongside officials from the Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF).

The meeting centered on early planning and strategic coordination for the 2026 continental showpiece, which will serve as a key Olympic qualifier on the road to the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles.

Korir emphasized the importance of seamless collaboration between NOCK, CAVB, and KVF to ensure the successful organization of the championship and to strengthen Team Kenya’s chances of securing qualification for the global event.

“This championship is not just about hosting Africa — it is about positioning our women’s volleyball team strongly on the path to Olympic qualification. We are committed to working closely with CAVB and KVF to deliver a world-class event,” Korir said.

Discussions reportedly covered logistical planning, venue readiness, technical standards, athlete preparation, and regional partnerships necessary to stage a competitive and well-organized tournament. The championship is expected to attract top women’s volleyball teams from across the continent, making it one of the most significant sporting events on Kenya’s calendar ahead of 2028.

CAVB officials lauded Kenya’s continued leadership in African volleyball and expressed confidence in the country’s ability to host a successful championship. Kenya has long been a dominant force in women’s volleyball in Africa, with strong continental performances bolstering its Olympic ambitions.

Officials from the Kenya Volleyball Federation reiterated their readiness to collaborate with both NOCK and CAVB to ensure that preparations begin early and that the national team is adequately supported both technically and administratively.

The 2026 Women’s African Nations Volleyball Championship is expected to play a decisive role in determining Africa’s representatives at the Los Angeles Games, raising the stakes for participating nations.

As preparations gather momentum, stakeholders expressed optimism that the partnership between NOCK, CAVB, and KVF will not only deliver a successful tournament but also elevate Team Kenya’s competitive edge on the continental and global stage.

“Together, we build. Together, we elevate Team Kenya,” Korir said, underscoring the shared vision driving the preparations.
