Kenya Unveils Bomas International Convention Centre to Boost MICE Tourism

Kenya is set to strengthen its position as a leading Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Events (MICE) destination with the development of the Bomas International Convention Centre (BICC), which will be the largest convention facility in East and Central Africa.

Speaking on the project, Cabinet Secretary for Tourism and Wildlife Rebecca Miano said the BICC represents a major milestone in Kenya’s efforts to expand its tourism and events industry and attract high-profile international gatherings.

According to the CS, the project aligns with the development agenda of President William Samoei Ruto, whose administration is focused on repositioning Kenya as a competitive global destination for business tourism, international conferences, and cultural events.

Once completed, the BICC will significantly enhance Kenya’s capacity to host large-scale summits, expos, conventions, and cultural showcases that previously could not be accommodated locally. The facility is expected to attract international organizations, multinational corporations, and global associations seeking modern infrastructure supported by strong connectivity and a rich cultural environment.

CS Miano noted that the convention centre will have far-reaching economic benefits, including increased international arrivals, longer visitor stays, and growth across key sectors such as hospitality, transport, creative industries, and small and medium enterprises. She added that the project will also create sustainable employment opportunities and support inclusive economic growth.

Strategically located at the iconic Bomas of Kenya site, the BICC is designed to integrate modern convention infrastructure with the country’s cultural heritage, complementing Kenya’s broader tourism offerings such as wildlife, adventure, cultural tourism, and business travel.

The Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife reaffirmed its commitment to supporting investments that align with Vision 2030 and Kenya’s long-term development goals, describing the BICC as a symbol of confidence in the country’s future.

With the project underway, Kenya aims to strengthen the “Magical Kenya” brand and position itself as a destination where global business meets authentic African experience.
