Kenya fall to third after painful loss to USA as Germany claim SVNS 2 Title

Kenya Shujaa’s impressive charge at the SVNS 2 Nairobi leg ended in disappointment as a 21–5 defeat to the USA in their final match proved costly, dropping them to third place at Nyayo Stadium.

The loss ended Shujaa’s remarkable 27-match winning streak, a run that had stretched unbroken since 2021. With Germany defeating the USA earlier on Sunday, the title race went down to the wire however, the Americans’ strong finish against Kenya left both teams tied on 12 points, with Germany crowned champions on 13.

Kenya’s Title Charge Ends Abruptly

Shujaa entered the USA clash unbeaten and full of momentum, but the Americans executed a near-perfect defensive and territorial game. Lucas Lacamp broke the deadlock, kicking through Kenya’s defensive line to score the opener as the USA led narrowly at halftime.

A penalty early in the second half swung momentum further away from Kenya, and from the resulting lineout, Aaron Cummings powered over to stretch the lead to 14–0. Adam Channel then added the Americans’ third try, securing the victory and ending Kenya’s hopes of lifting the Nairobi title. George Ooro sprinted from deep to score a late consolation, but it was not enough to alter the standings.

Other Men’s results

Germany edged Belgium 12–5, with tries from Niklas Koch and Jakob Dipper ensuring they topped the standings. Uruguay bounced back strongly with a 43–12 demolition of Canada, scoring through Ignacio Rodriguez (two), Dante Soto, Juan Manuel Tafernaberry, Alfonso Vidal, Mauricio Maly and Joaquin Cat.

Argentina take Women’s crown despite Golden-time loss

Argentina were confirmed as SVNS 2 Nairobi women’s champions despite falling 17–12 to South Africa in a dramatic golden-time thriller. Marianela Escalante and Sofia Gonzalez scored for Argentina, but Maria Tshiremba and Patience Mokone forced extra time, where Tshiremba sealed the win with her second try.

Lionesses finish fifth

Kenya Lionesses ended their campaign in fifth after a 14–5 loss to Spain their third straight defeat. Freshia Oduor scored early, but Spain rallied through Denisse Gortazar and Abril Camacho Ruiz. China closed their tournament with a 24–5 win over Brazil, with tries from Sun Yue, Chen Can and two from Qian Xin.
