Bii, Mandago Clash Explodes as Uasin Gishu Governor Calls for Senator’s Arrest Over ‘Goons’ Claims

Tensions have escalated between Jonathan Bii Chelilim and Jackson Mandago after the governor launched a scathing public rebuttal to allegations made by the senator, deepening an already bitter political feud in Uasin Gishu County.

Speaking at a public event in Eldoret, Bii dismissed Mandago’s claims that the county government had placed “goons” on its payroll, terming the accusations reckless and unfounded. The governor challenged the senator to present evidence to investigative agencies and called for his arrest if he fails to substantiate the claims.

“If the senator has proof that public funds are being used to pay criminals, he should table that evidence before the relevant authorities. Otherwise, he should be held accountable for misleading the public,” Bii said.

The remarks mark a dramatic escalation in hostilities between the two leaders, who have clashed repeatedly in recent months over governance, development priorities, and political alignments within the county.

Bii, who succeeded Mandago as governor, also took aim at his predecessor’s record in office, poking holes in what he described as stalled projects, financial mismanagement concerns, and unmet promises during Mandago’s tenure at the helm of Uasin Gishu County.

The governor further criticized Mandago’s perceived national ambitions, dismissing suggestions that the senator harbors intentions of seeking higher office after the tenure of William Samoei Ruto. Bii argued that leadership at the national level demands accountability and a strong track record at the county level.

“Leadership is about service and results, not noise and endless accusations,” he said, urging leaders to focus on development instead of political grandstanding.

Mandago has yet to issue a formal response to Bii’s latest remarks. However, the senator has previously defended his oversight role, insisting that as a member of the Senate, he has a constitutional duty to question county expenditures and protect public resources.

The escalating feud has drawn mixed reactions from local leaders and residents, with some calling for reconciliation and others urging investigations into the claims raised. Political analysts say the public spat reflects shifting alliances and early maneuvering ahead of future electoral contests in the Rift Valley region.

As the war of words intensifies, pressure is mounting on both leaders to back their assertions with evidence — or risk further polarizing the county’s political landscape.
