Rarieda MP Launches Sh29 Million Development Projects to Boost Education and Security
Rarieda Member of Parliament, Dr. Otiende Amolo, has launched development projects worth Sh29 million funded through the National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NGCDF), aimed at improving education, security, and local economic activities in the constituency.
Speaking during the commissioning of a Sh1.8 million classroom at Raliew Secondary School, Dr. Otiende revealed that Sh15 million has been spent on school projects across the constituency. He said that all primary schools have benefited from fencing and gating to enhance security, contributing to improved learning environments.
“Ndigwa Secondary School, which has received the highest NGCDF support in the constituency over the last four years, registered a mean score of 8.7, emerging third best in Siaya County after Maranda and Rangala High Schools,” Dr. Otiende noted. He attributed the school’s academic improvement partly to the sustained NGCDF interventions.
In addition to education projects, the MP highlighted the installation of two high-mast lights, costing Sh7 million each, at Owimbi Centre and Asembo Bay Beach. Dr. Otiende said the lights have significantly enhanced security, boosted local trade, and increased fish production by attracting fish to the lit beaches.
“By investing in both education and infrastructure, we are creating safer communities, supporting economic growth, and ensuring our children have the best opportunities to succeed,” he said.
Dr. Otiende called on residents to safeguard the projects and ensure they are utilized for the intended purposes, emphasizing that public participation and accountability remain central to development efforts.
The Sh29 million initiative demonstrates the impact of NGCDF funding in Rarieda, addressing both social and economic development priorities, while improving the welfare of students, traders, and local communities.
