Professionals from Luo Community Call for Inclusive Governance and Accelerated Reforms

Professionals from the Luo community have called for inclusive governance, urgent implementation of agreed national reforms, and greater participation of professional expertise in Kenya’s leadership and decision-making processes.

Speaking at a press briefing held at the Panafric Hotel in Nairobi, the group said Kenya stands at a critical juncture that demands visionary leadership, national unity, and decisive action in the public interest.

The professionals said the country’s development potential cannot be fully realised without the deliberate integration of trained experts, including engineers, doctors, economists, academicians, legal practitioners, technologists, and innovators, into senior governance and policy roles. They said professionals must move beyond commentary to active participation in nation-building.

The group welcomed the broad-based governance framework initiated by President William Ruto and the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, describing it as a pragmatic approach to political stability, national healing, and inclusive development. They said the framework offers an opportunity to address historical exclusion and marginalisation while strengthening cohesion.

They further called for the expedited implementation of the 10-Point Agenda signed on March 7, 2025, terming it a critical blueprint for structural reform, democratic consolidation, and social cohesion. Key priorities cited include the full implementation of the NADCO report, inclusivity in public appointments, protection of devolution, youth economic empowerment, leadership integrity, responsible debt management, anti-corruption measures, and the protection of constitutional rights, including compensation for victims of public protests.

The professionals warned that continued delays in implementing the reform agenda risk eroding public confidence in governance. They said honouring the legacy of the late Mr Odinga requires faithful and timely execution of the agreed reforms.

On political stability, the group urged unity and discipline within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), saying internal cohesion is necessary for the party to remain a strong national force. They also underscored the importance of principled dialogue and coalition-building across the political divide, including engagement with the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), in the national interest.

Looking ahead to the 2027 General Election, the professionals called on members of the community to register as voters in large numbers and participate actively in the democratic process, noting that political empowerment begins with civic engagement and strategic mobilisation.

They said the Luo community’s long history of political struggle should now translate into strategic engagement, national responsibility, and constructive participation in governance.

The professionals concluded by calling for courageous political leadership, inclusive governance, and immediate implementation of agreed reforms, stating their readiness to partner with all progressive forces to build a just, inclusive, and prosperous Kenya.
