President Ruto Hands Over Phase II of Boma Yangu Mukuru Estate, Housing 4,500 Families

President William Samoei Ruto has officially handed over Phase II of the Boma Yangu Mukuru Estate, a major milestone in the government’s slum eradication and urban renewal programme. The project has provided nearly 4,500 families with keys to decent, affordable homes.

Speaking during the handover ceremony, President Ruto emphasized that sustainable urban renewal goes beyond housing. “Decent homes are just the beginning. Families need access to education, healthcare, security, and emergency services to live, learn, and thrive with dignity,” he said.

Complementing the housing development, the estate now boasts the New Mukuru Primary School and ECD Centre, a modern, purpose-built learning institution serving the growing community. The primary school has already been handed over to the Ministry of Education, while the ECD Centre is managed by the County Government of Nairobi. A headteacher and teachers have been deployed, ensuring the school is ready to welcome its first cohort of learners.

The estate also integrates other essential amenities, including a Fire Station for rapid emergency response, a Police Station to enhance security, and a Level IV Hospital providing accessible healthcare services to residents.

The State Department for Interior and National Administration will play a central role in operationalising the police and fire stations, maintaining internal security, and supporting disaster preparedness, ensuring the Mukuru community enjoys a safe, secure, and well-administered living environment.

Phase II of Boma Yangu Mukuru Estate highlights the government’s commitment to holistic urban renewal, combining housing with education, healthcare, security, and community infrastructure to uplift Nairobi’s informal settlements.
