Over 700 Kabarnet Households Receive KSh 1 Million Christmas Food Donation from City of Hurth
More than 700 households in Kabarnet Municipality have benefited from a Christmas food donation worth KSh 1 million, generously provided by the City of Hurth. The donation, aimed at supporting vulnerable community members, was part of the 2025 festive season initiative.
The distribution, which was completed on January 6, 2026, targeted selected groups within the municipality, including Persons Living with Disabilities (PWDs), the needy, and other vulnerable members of society.
Addressing the delay in distribution, City of Hurth Chairman Rudiger Winkler apologized to beneficiaries, attributing the setback to a typing error during the funds transfer process.
In response, Kabarnet Municipality Manager Dr. Salome Tomno expressed appreciation for the patience and understanding shown by the community. “There is a municipal food donation committee comprising members of the Kabarnet Municipality Board, which spearheads the identification and distribution of food to deserving groups,” Dr. Tomno said.
Speaking to Minja News in her office, the Municipal Acting Manager revealed that the municipality plans to allocate funds for the 2026 Christmas festival to ensure a broader reach, noting that limited resources meant some deserving beneficiaries were left out this year.
Beneficiaries expressed gratitude to the City of Hurth, describing the annual donation as a timely and impactful gesture of goodwill. Many noted that the support came at a crucial time, helping families meet basic needs during the festive season.
The initiative underscores the importance of community partnerships in supporting vulnerable populations and highlights ongoing efforts by both the municipality and international partners to provide social assistance in the region.
