Murkomen Warns Drug Barons as He Celebrates Family Values at Uasin Gishu Engagement
Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen on Saturday underscored the government’s renewed war on drug and substance abuse, warning traffickers and distributors of adulterated alcohol that their days are numbered.
Speaking during the engagement ceremony of Sandra Chebichii and Brian Kemboi in Kimumu, CS Murkomen said the government has declared this year one of liberating the country from the yoke of drugs and alcohol, which he noted continues to undermine the dreams and sacrifices parents make for their children.
“This year, we have resolved to free our nation from drug and substance abuse so that the prayers, investments, and hopes of parents are not destroyed by alcohol and drugs,” Murkomen said. “We are sending a clear warning to drug barons and those distributing adulterated ethanol that their days are numbered.”
The ceremony was attended by H.E. President Dr. William Samoei Ruto, leaders from across the country, and family members and friends of Hon. Justice Dr. Joseph Sergon, Hon. Prof. Phyllis Bartoo, and Mr. Thomas Cherutich and Mrs. Christine Cherutich.
Murkomen praised the bride and groom—both based in Australia—as a testament to good parenting, ambition, and discipline, noting that academic achievement, career success, and family formation remain key milestones that crown parents’ efforts in raising their children.
“They are a shining example of what focused upbringing and determination can achieve,” he said, adding that the nation is proud of their accomplishments and wished them success as they begin a new chapter together.
The Interior CS emphasized that Kenya’s ambition to become a first-world nation cannot be realized if its most productive population remains trapped by alcohol and substance abuse. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to enforcement, prevention, and community engagement to protect young people and safeguard the country’s future.
