Murkomen Rallies Leaders to Ensure 100% Transition to Senior Secondary Schools

Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has called on leaders at all levels to work together to ensure a 100 per cent transition of learners from Junior Secondary to Senior Secondary School.

Speaking in Kasige, Marakwet East Constituency, Elgeyo Marakwet County, during the burial of Endo Ward MCA Jeremiah Kibiwott Toryebee, Murkomen said keeping children in school is a collective responsibility that requires the involvement of national and local leaders.

“Let all of us work together to ensure full transition from junior to senior secondary school,” the CS said.

He added that the County Commissioner and the National Government Administration Officers (NGAO) have been directed to move to the grassroots to ensure that all school-going children are attending classes.

“The County Commissioner and the NGAO team have clear instructions to go to the villages and ensure that all children who are supposed to be in school are in class,” he said.

Murkomen also addressed security concerns in the Kerio Valley, noting that the government has made significant progress in restoring peace and stability in the region. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to recovering all illegally held firearms.

“I want to assure you that the work we have undertaken here to repossess illegal firearms will continue until there are none left in civilian hands,” he said, warning that weapons not surrendered voluntarily will be forcefully recovered.

Additionally, the CS announced the launch of special security operations targeting suppliers of illicit alcohol and drugs entering the country through porous borders. He said the government would take firm action against commercial networks involved in the manufacture, distribution, and supply of adulterated alcohol and narcotic substances.

“We will carry out special operations targeting commercial suppliers of adulterated alcohol and drug substances,” Murkomen said.

The funeral was attended by several leaders, including Elgeyo Marakwet Governor Wesley Rotich, Deputy Governor Grace Cheserek, Senator William Kisang, Marakwet East MP Kangogo Bowen, Keiyo North MP Adams Kipsanai, Marakwet West MP Timothy Kipchumba, County Woman Representative Caroline Ngelechei, and Members of the County Assembly led by Speaker Lawi Kibire, among others.
