Mandera South MP Updates Residents on Expanded Drought Relief Efforts

Mandera South Member of Parliament Abdul Haro Kore has issued an update on the second phase of drought relief efforts targeting vulnerable families across the constituency.

In a statement, Mr Kore said the Government of Kenya relief food programme has been scaled up, with Kotulo Sub-county receiving four truckloads of food, while Elwak in Mandera Central Sub-county has received six truckloads. He noted that additional consignments are already en route to other distribution centres. This comes on top of earlier deliveries of four trucks each to Kotulo and Elwak launched weeks ago in the presence of Principal Secretary Ismail.

The MP added that government cash transfers have been enhanced, alongside World Food Programme (WFP) cash assistance targeting households in the two sub-counties.

Further support is expected through a planned Ramadan programme by the Roba Foundation, in partnership with the area MP, which will assist 400 vulnerable families per ward across the constituency’s five wards. Senator Roba’s women empowerment fundraising initiative is also ongoing.

Mr Kore said efforts are underway to provide animal feed to protect livestock, the main source of livelihood for residents, while water trucking continues across all centres.

He expressed hope that relief food distribution would proceed without delays to ensure timely support for affected families, particularly to cushion households and sustain education during the drought period.

The MP thanked President William Samoei Ruto and the national government for their swift response, and commended residents for their patience and resilience, urging the public to report areas where assistance may not be reaching those in need.
