Limuru Affordable Housing Project Gains Momentum Under Hinga’s Stewardship
Construction of the 705-unit Limuru Affordable Housing Project is progressing steadily and remains on schedule, signaling renewed momentum in the government’s affordable housing agenda and effective inter-agency coordination.
The project, under the administrative oversight of the State Department of Interior and National Administration, has moved from heavy structural works to advanced finishing stages. Current site activities include internal and external plastering, masonry and blockwork, installation and fabrication of steel window frames, and fixing of door frames. Contractors on site report that work is proceeding in line with set delivery timelines.
Beyond physical progress, the development has already generated substantial employment opportunities for local artisans, technicians and general workers. This has injected much-needed income into the surrounding community, boosting household livelihoods and stimulating the local economy.
Housing Principal Secretary Charles Hinga has been credited with sustaining momentum not only in Limuru but across affordable housing projects countrywide. Through close supervision and strengthened coordination among government agencies, the State Department has sought to avoid delays that have historically slowed similar developments.
For Limuru, a fast-growing peri-urban town and a key residential hub for Nairobi’s workforce, the project addresses rising demand for decent and affordable housing. Once completed, the development is expected to ease pressure on Nairobi’s inner-city settlements while enhancing Limuru’s role within the wider Nairobi Metropolitan Region.
The Limuru Affordable Housing Project reflects the government’s broader housing agenda, placing emphasis on timely delivery, local economic impact and integrated urban planning as Kenya works to bridge its housing deficit.
