Kilifi County Launches Sh150 Million Scholarship Programme for Bright and Needy Students
The Kilifi County Government has disbursed Sh150 million to support over 1,000 bright and needy learners under its Grade 10 Full Scholarship Programme, aimed at easing their transition into senior secondary school.
Speaking at the official launch of the programme at the Governor’s Office, Deputy Governor Flora Mbetsa Chibule said the scholarships target students joining Cluster One schools after attaining a minimum of 61 points in their previous examinations.
Ms Chibule, who represented Governor Gideon Maitha Mung’aro, noted that the funds would be administered through the county’s Department of Education and ICT. Tuition fees will be paid directly to schools to ensure efficiency, transparency, and uninterrupted learning for the beneficiaries.
“Under this initiative, the county government will fully cover tuition costs, while parents and guardians will provide uniforms and personal essentials,” said the Deputy Governor.
She emphasized that the programme reflects Kilifi County’s commitment to equitable access to quality education, ensuring that no child is denied learning opportunities due to financial constraints.
Education remains a cornerstone of Kilifi County’s development agenda, and the scholarship programme is expected to strengthen human capital and contribute to long-term socio-economic growth.
The initiative is part of broader efforts by the county government to nurture talent, promote academic excellence, and support vulnerable families across the region.
