Grade 10 Transition Progressing Smoothly Nationwide, Says Education PS Bitok

Principal Secretary for Basic Education Prof. Julius Bitok has assured the country that the transition of Grade 10 learners into junior school is progressing smoothly, with most secondary schools recording high enrolment levels and learners settling well into the new education phase.

Speaking after visiting Moi Girls Kamangu and Alliance High School, Prof. Bitok said he held engagements with students and teachers to assess the learners’ adjustment and overall preparedness under the new curriculum. He noted that the learners displayed confidence and enthusiasm as they begin this important stage of their academic journey.

“I was encouraged by the positive reception and the confidence demonstrated by the learners as they embark on this important phase of their education,” the PS said.

According to Prof. Bitok, feedback from the two schools, coupled with reports received from across the country, indicate that the transition has been largely successful. He revealed that most schools have already achieved over 90 per cent enrolment, with the remaining learners expected to report by Thursday.

The PS emphasized that the Ministry of Education’s top priority is to ensure that every learner is properly placed and receives adequate support to thrive in junior school.

He added that the ministry is actively addressing emerging concerns related to student admissions, availability of learning and instructional materials, teacher capacity in certain pathway subjects, as well as issues arising from the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) results.

“We continue to engage closely with schools and stakeholders, taking deliberate and timely action to uphold quality, equity and access, and to guarantee opportunity for every learner,” Prof. Bitok said.

The Education Ministry, he noted, remains committed to ensuring a smooth and inclusive implementation of the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC), as schools continue to receive support to strengthen teaching, learning, and learner welfare across the country.
