Gender PS Reaffirms Government Commitment to Women’s Welfare and Safety

Principal Secretary for Gender, Ann Wang’ombe, has reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to advancing women’s welfare and empowerment through targeted affirmative action programmes.

Speaking during the launch of the Maendeleo Ya Wanawake–Kenya 2025–2029 Strategic Plan, which she attended alongside Cabinet Secretary Hanna Wendot Cheptumo, the PS highlighted key government interventions including the National Government Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF) and the Women Enterprise Fund (WEF).

PS Wang’ombe underscored the critical role of coordinated, multi-sectoral action in addressing gender-based violence, noting with concern the rising cases of femicide in the country.

She emphasized that strengthening partnerships between government, civil society, and community structures is essential to protecting women’s rights, promoting safety, and ensuring inclusive development.

The newly launched strategic plan is expected to guide Maendeleo Ya Wanawake-Kenya’s interventions over the next five years, with a focus on empowerment, advocacy, and social justice for women across the country.
