Education Cabinet Secretary Opposes Calls to Restrict National School Admissions to Local Students
Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Migos Ogamba has dismissed calls by some politicians for national schools to admit only students from their host communities, saying the suggestion undermines the national mandate of these institutions.
“It is misguided for leaders to suggest that national schools should admit only students from their host communities,” Ogamba said. “These institutions are meant to serve learners from across the country.”
The CS made the remarks on Thursday while releasing the 2025 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) results at AIC Chebisaas Boys Secondary School in Eldoret.
Ogamba emphasized that national schools play a critical role in fostering national integration and providing opportunities for talented students regardless of their geographical location. He noted that restricting admissions would limit access for high-performing students from other regions and compromise the diversity and excellence these schools are known for.
The KCSE results, he said, reflect the resilience and hard work of both students and teachers across the country, and he urged all stakeholders to continue supporting equitable access to quality education.
