Bishop Joseph K. Likavo Laid to Rest at Prayer Mountain, Eldoret

The late Bishop Joseph K. Likavo of the I.V.C Church in Eldoret was on Wednesday laid to rest at the Prayer Mountain in the Maili Nne area of Uasin Gishu County, bringing to a close a life widely celebrated for faith, service, and transformative leadership.

The burial ceremony attracted a large gathering of senior bishops, clergy, political leaders, relatives, friends, and thousands of congregants, reflecting the deep influence Bishop Likavo had both within and outside the church. Hymns, prayers, and emotional tributes marked the solemn occasion as speakers remembered a man described as humble, prayerful, principled, and deeply devoted to God and humanity.

Throughout the service, Bishop Likavo was eulogised as a straightforward and fearless leader who upheld integrity in his ministry and personal life. Fellow bishops recalled his unwavering commitment to prayer, sound doctrine, and community outreach, noting that he consistently encouraged unity and compassion among believers.

Political leaders also joined the clergy in paying tribute. Uasin Gishu Senator Jackson Mandago described the late bishop as a visionary whose leadership went beyond the pulpit to tangible development projects that have continued to benefit the wider community.

“Today we laid to rest Bishop Joseph K. Likavo of I.V.C Church in Eldoret. Bishop Likavo was full of humility, generous, visionary and above all integral,” said Senator Mandago.
He pointed to key transformational initiatives undertaken during the bishop’s tenure, including the establishment of the I.V.C Mlimani Hospital, which has enhanced access to healthcare, and the IVEC School located at the Prayer Mountain, known for its impressive academic and sporting facilities.

“These institutions stand as a testimony of his vision for holistic ministry—one that cares for both the spiritual and physical wellbeing of the people,” Mandago added.

He further conveyed condolences to the bereaved family and the I.V.C Church fraternity, assuring them of continued prayers and support during what he termed an irreplaceable loss.

Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii echoed similar sentiments, describing Bishop Likavo as a true servant of God whose life was anchored in faith, integrity, and service to people.

“We honour the life of Bishop Joseph Likavo, a true servant of God whose life was deeply rooted in faith, integrity, and an unwavering devotion to people,” Governor Bii said.
He noted that the bishop’s ministry transformed countless lives, strengthened churches, and left a lasting mark on families, institutions, and communities not only in Eldoret—the City of Champions—but across Kenya and beyond.

Governor Bii added that Bishop Likavo’s influence extended into social development, mentorship, and moral leadership, making him a respected voice both in religious and civic spaces.

The final tribute ceremony was held at Eldoret Sports Club, where mourners shared memories and testimonies of the late bishop’s kindness, generosity, and commitment to nurturing future generations. The cortege later proceeded to the Prayer Mountain in Maili Nne, where he was laid to rest amid prayers and songs of hope.

Family members described Bishop Likavo as a loving husband and a caring father who balanced ministry with dedication to his family. They thanked leaders, congregants, and friends for standing with them during the period of mourning.

As the sun set over the Prayer Mountain, mourners reflected on a life well lived, defined by faith, service, and vision. Bishop Joseph K. Likavo leaves behind a legacy that continues through the institutions he founded, the lives he touched, and the spiritual foundation he laid—one that many believe will inspire generations to come.
