Veteran Politician Cyrus Jirongo Dies in Road Accident

Veteran politician and businessman Hon. Cyrus Jirongo has died following a grisly road accident, former Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala has said.

Malala described Jirongo as a towering political figure and a mentor who played a critical role in shaping the political journeys of many young leaders across the country.

According to Malala, Jirongo was a political father figure who warmly welcomed young people straight out of school into his fold, mentoring them and equipping them with practical leadership and political skills.

“He believed in the youth and invested in them without hesitation. He gave seed capital to youth initiatives and inspired many of us to seek elective office at the grassroots level,” Malala said.

The former senator noted that Jirongo consistently championed unity, particularly within the Luhya community, which he regarded as the foundation of political strength and development in the region.

Malala added that Jirongo’s generosity, approachability, and commitment to mentorship set him apart from many of his contemporaries, leaving behind a lasting legacy of service and empowerment.

Tributes continued to pour in from political leaders and community members who described the late Jirongo as a unifying figure and a dependable guide to the younger generation.

The family is yet to announce funeral arrangements.

Hon. Cyrus Jirongo’s death marks the end of a significant chapter in Kenyan politics, with many remembering him as a mentor whose influence will endure beyond his lifetime.
