St. Anne’s Mumias Girls’ Comprehensive School in Kakamega County has once again affirmed its reputation for academic excellence following an impressive performance in the Grade 9 Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA) results released yesterday.

The results were announced by Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba Migosi, with St. Anne’s emerging among the top-performing institutions nationally. The majority of the school’s Grade 9 candidates attained scores in the Exceeding Expectations category.

According to the school principal, Sr. Cyrillah Sanya, more than 191 candidates qualified for admission to top-tier C1 schools, formerly known as national schools, while several others secured placement in leading C2 schools, previously classified as extra-county schools.

Sr. Sanya attributed the outstanding performance to hard work, dedication from teachers, strong discipline among learners and a shared faith.
“We prepared the girls well, and we knew they would deliver. This was a very focused class. They were sharp, they knew what they wanted, and they gave it their all,” she said.

She added that the school had recorded strong results in earlier assessments, including Grade 6 examinations, which boosted confidence ahead of the national KJSEA tests.

While releasing the results, CS Ogamba noted that about 75 per cent of KJSEA candidates countrywide scored between Approaching Expectations and Meeting Expectations. Sr. Sanya observed that nearly all learners at St. Anne’s performed above the Meeting Expectations level, a feat she described as highly encouraging.

“It is worth noting that we have produced some of the best candidates nationally in previous years. Even though the new CBC curriculum does not rank schools, we can confidently say we remain among the top institutions in the country,” she said.

The principal also highlighted the school’s harmonious working environment as a key driver of success.
“Our teachers understand their roles and support one another. Unlike in some schools where there is friction, we enjoy a cordial atmosphere that helps us push our performance higher,” she added.

The candidates expressed gratitude to their teachers and school administration for the guidance and support they received throughout their studies, noting that it played a major role in their success.

As they prepare to transition to Grade 10, the learners pledged to uphold the school’s values and remain proud ambassadors of the institution. They reaffirmed their commitment to the school motto: To better our best for excellence.
