Marakwet West MP Calls for Expanded Banking Services and CSR Investment During Cooperative Bank Executive Plus Centre Opening

Marakwet West Member of Parliament, Hon. Timothy Kipchumba Toroitich, on Friday joined the leadership of the Cooperative Bank of Kenya during the official opening of the Bank’s new Executive Plus Centre at Rupa’s Mall in Eldoret.

Speaking at the event, Hon. Toroitich commended the Cooperative Bank for its timely and compassionate support to victims of the recent landslide disaster in Marakwet East, noting that the intervention had brought much-needed relief to affected families during a difficult period.

“I take this opportunity to sincerely thank Cooperative Bank for standing with our people in Marakwet East during the landslide tragedy. Such support reflects the true spirit of partnership and corporate citizenship,” the MP said.

The legislator further called upon the Bank to consider opening a full branch in either Kapcherop or Kapsowar within Marakwet West Constituency. He emphasized that increased access to banking services would play a critical role in promoting a savings culture, enhancing financial inclusion, and improving access to affordable credit for residents, entrepreneurs, farmers, and small businesses in the region.

“Infrastructure development must go hand in hand with financial access. A Cooperative Bank branch in Marakwet West will significantly empower our people economically and support local development,” Hon. Toroitich added.

Additionally, the MP requested the Bank to consider undertaking a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) project in Marakwet West in the year 2026. The Cooperative Bank leadership welcomed the proposal and expressed willingness to partner with the community on a meaningful CSR initiative.

The high-profile function was attended by several distinguished guests, including Prof. Grace Cheserek, Director General of the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), Hon. Paul Biego Polo, MP for Chesumei, world-renowned athlete Eliud Kipchoge, senior government officials, and prominent business leaders from Eldoret and beyond.

Hon. Toroitich concluded by acknowledging the importance of partnerships between financial institutions, government, and communities in driving sustainable development.
