Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi Calls for Unity, Urges Kenyans to Reject Tribalism

Kapseret Member of Parliament Oscar Kipchumba Sudi has reiterated the importance of national unity, calling on Kenyans to celebrate their diversity and firmly reject divisive tribal politics that undermine cohesion and development.

Addressing residents during a public forum in Kapseret, the legislator said Kenya’s strength lies in its people’s diversity, describing citizens from different ethnic, cultural, and religious backgrounds as “threads woven into the same national fabric.”

“Unity is key to our progress as a nation. Our differences should not be used to divide us, but to enrich us. When one thread is pulled out, the entire fabric is weakened. That is why we must stand together as one people,” Sudi said.

The MP warned that tribalism continues to pose a serious threat to peace, stability, and economic growth, particularly when exploited for political gain. He urged leaders at all levels to avoid rhetoric that fuels division and instead promote messages of inclusion, tolerance, and mutual respect.

Mr Sudi noted that national development cannot be achieved in an environment of suspicion and hostility among communities. He emphasized that unity creates a foundation for cooperation, investment, and shared prosperity.

“We cannot talk about development if we are divided along ethnic lines. Roads, schools, healthcare, and jobs benefit all Kenyans, regardless of tribe. Our focus should be on issues that unite us and improve the lives of our people,” he added.

The Kapseret MP also encouraged young people to rise above ethnic stereotypes and embrace a national outlook, saying the future of the country depends on a generation that values unity over division.

He further called on religious leaders, elders, and civil society to play an active role in fostering harmony and peaceful coexistence within communities.

Mr Sudi’s remarks come at a time when leaders across the country are emphasizing the need for national cohesion as Kenya pursues its development agenda and works to strengthen democratic values. He concluded by urging Kenyans to remain united, peaceful, and focused on building a stronger and more inclusive nation for all.
