Joysil Preparatory School in Matungu Sub-county, Kakamega County, has posted outstanding results in the 2025 Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA), cementing its reputation as one of the top-performing institutions in Western Kenya.

The school’s top candidate, Clare Anyango Manyasi, emerged the best with 71 points, after exceeding expectations in all subjects. She was closely followed by Glenjohnson Opili Silvano and Sophie Gloria Onyiso, who completed the top three performers.

Out of the 35 candidates who sat for the national examination, 24 scored in the “exceeding expectations” category, while the remaining 11 met expectations, marking one of the strongest overall performances recorded in the region this year.

Speaking after the release of the results, School Director Mr. Sylivester Angoye Musikoyo attributed the success to disciplined preparation, committed teaching staff and a supportive learning environment.

“We had a focused class, and our teachers prepared the learners thoroughly. These results reflect what the candidates consistently demonstrated during internal assessments,” he said.

Joysil Preparatory has maintained a strong academic record over the years, and this year’s performance continues that trend. Notably, top candidate Clare Manyasi comes from a family known for academic excellence. Her elder sister, Stacy Onyango Manyasi, previously topped the now-defunct KCPE examinations with over 420 marks, earning admission to St. Brigid Kiminini.

Nationally, Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba Migosi reported that about 75 per cent of candidates scored between “approaching expectations” and “below expectations” in the 2025 KJSEA. He noted that many public schools struggled due to overcrowded classrooms, high teacher-to-learner ratios and limited supervision.

In contrast, private institutions such as Joysil Preparatory posted stronger results, a performance attributed to smaller class sizes, close monitoring by teachers and individualized learner support.

Mr. Musikoyo expressed optimism that all Joysil candidates would secure placement in their preferred national schools.

“We have a consistent system of moulding our learners. Those who pass through this institution become our ambassadors, and we believe these results will open new opportunities for many families,” he said.

Joysil Preparatory School has produced high-achieving learners for over a decade. Recently, Mr. Musikoyo was honoured as a National Hero (Shujaa) in recognition of his contribution to education in Matungu and beyond.

As celebrations continue, the school’s 2025 class now ranks among the best-performing cohorts in Kakamega County, reinforcing Joysil Preparatory’s standing as a centre of academic excellence.
