Governor Rotich Warns Keiyo South MP Against “Petty Politics” in Churches

Governor Wisley Rotich has issued a strong warning to Keiyo South Member of Parliament Hon. Gideon Sonko, urging him to desist from what he described as petty politics, political insults, and public attacks on fellow leaders, particularly within places of worship.

Speaking during a fundraising event at Tambul AIC Church in Kabiemit Ward, Keiyo South Constituency, the Governor said churches should remain sacred spaces for worship and community development, not platforms for political abuse or personal feuds.

“Churches are not arenas for political wars or insults,” Governor Rotich said, emphasizing the need for leaders to exercise restraint and respect when addressing the public in such settings.

The Governor challenged the MP to shift his focus toward tangible development for the people of Keiyo South instead of engaging in what he termed as cheap politics and verbal attacks. He further cautioned Hon. Sonko against sending mixed signals by allegedly campaigning for multiple political positions at the same time, noting that serious leadership requires clarity and focus.

“A leader must concentrate on one seat at a time if they are truly committed to serving the people,” he said.

Governor Rotich also condemned what he described as a pattern of disrespectful conduct by the MP toward other leaders across the county. He stressed that leadership is grounded in mutual respect, not insults or confrontation.

“Respect is earned. You cannot demand respect when you do not respect others,” the Governor remarked.

Calling for disciplined, mature, and issue-based leadership, Governor Rotich warned that reckless politics would not be tolerated. He urged leaders to prioritize service delivery and unity, saying residents deserve focused leadership rather than unnecessary political noise.

“The people want results, not endless political drama,” he said.

The remarks come amid rising political temperatures in the county, with leaders increasingly using public forums to trade accusations as the next election cycle approaches.
