Funyula Affordable Housing Project Reaches 47% Completion, Boosting Local Employment
Construction work at the Funyula Affordable Housing Project (AHP) in Busia County is progressing steadily, with the development now 47 per cent complete across its 10 residential blocks.
The project, which is part of the government’s Affordable Housing Programme, shows active construction across different sections of the site, with each block advancing through various stages of development.
In Lot 1, which consists of affordable housing units, all five blocks have successfully completed their structural works. Walling has reached 60 per cent, while window installation stands at 20 per cent. Plastering is 35 per cent complete, and door fitting has reached 10 per cent. Skimming and painting works are currently ongoing in sections of the A-series blocks, marking visible progress toward interior finishes.
Meanwhile, the B-series blocks are at an advanced structural stage, with slab casting and structural works at 80 per cent completion. Walling has commenced and is currently at 10 per cent. Supporting activities such as window fabrication, block making, and the installation of timber door frames are actively underway to maintain momentum on site.
Beyond physical construction, the project continues to have a positive socio-economic impact on the local community. A total of 235 workers are currently employed at the site, including 10 women, providing stable income opportunities and contributing to local livelihoods.
The steady progress at Funyula AHP reflects ongoing commitment to expanding access to decent and affordable housing while simultaneously creating jobs and stimulating economic activity within Busia County.
