UDA Reaffirms Commitment to Implement MoU With ODM, Honour Raila Odinga’s Legacy

The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has pledged to fully implement the Memorandum of Understanding signed with the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), including the 10-point agenda agreed upon with the late opposition leader Raila Odinga.

Speaking during a UDA delegates’ meeting in Vihiga County, Secretary-General Hassan Omar said the party remains committed to executing every element of the broad-based government arrangement outlined in the National Dialogue Committee (NADCO) report.

“We in UDA will ensure that we honour Raila Odinga’s commitment — that all the agreements, word for word, that he reached with President William Ruto are implemented. It is the best honour we can give the fallen hero, Raila Odinga,” Omar said.

He maintained that UDA and ODM will continue working jointly to advance the proposed governance structure, revive the economy and actualise all recommendations under the NADCO framework and the coalition’s shared agenda.

“It was Baba’s wish that we unite, and we will ensure that goal is achieved,” he added.

Lamu Governor Issa Timamy used the forum to rally the Luhya community behind the UDA candidate in the upcoming Malava by-election, describing the contest as a key indicator of political dynamics ahead of the 2027 General Election.

“This vote is very crucial for the Western region and for Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi. It is important for the seat to be won by UDA. Even if they combine forces, they cannot defeat us,” Timamy said.

Host MP Omboko Milemba, who also serves as UDA deputy secretary-general, said the delegates’ meeting was aimed at strengthening the party’s grassroots presence following the recent merger between UDA and the Amani National Congress (ANC).

“This meeting was meant to bring UDA leaders closer to the grassroots. We have not had a better opportunity than this to meet with our leaders,” Milemba noted.

The Vihiga meeting is part of wider efforts by UDA to consolidate support in Western Kenya as the coalition repositions itself ahead of future political contests.
