Samburu-based Citizen TV reporter Boniface Barasa has been crowned the Upcoming Media Personality of the Year at the prestigious IGAD Media Awards, a recognition that celebrates journalists across the Horn of Africa who produce compelling and impactful climate change stories.

Barasa, visibly humbled by the honor, attributed his achievement to faith, teamwork, and resilience.

“I am really honored and deeply grateful to have received the IGAD Media Award as the upcoming media personality of the year. First and foremost, I thank the Almighty God for this far,” he said after receiving the award.

He extended special appreciation to the IGAD Secretariat for establishing a platform that highlights the crucial role journalists play in raising awareness on climate change—an issue that continues to shape livelihoods in the region.

Barasa also recognized the collective effort behind his storytelling success.

“To my camera person, editors, and sources—we collectively made this a success. Thank you from the bottom of my heart,” he added.

Describing the award as proof that hard work pays, Barasa expressed hope that his recognition will inspire young journalists and talented African youth, particularly those from humble backgrounds, to push boundaries and pursue their dreams fearlessly.

“I hope this award inspires young and upcoming journalists to never give up, and encourages talented Africans to dare the status quo. The future is bright,” he said.

Barasa concluded his remarks with a message of unity: “Mungu ni wetu sote.”

The accolade marks a significant milestone in his rising journalism career, cementing his place among notable storytellers championing climate-related reporting in the region.
