President William Ruto has attributed the government’s recent victories in several by-elections to a strengthened broad-based alliance, saying unity among partner parties had delivered decisive results.

Speaking on Sunday in Ijara, Garissa County, the President said the coalition’s joint candidates secured wins in Ugunja, Kasipul, Malava, Banisa, Magarini, Mbeere North and Baringo because leaders chose cooperation over competition.

“The last by-elections have demonstrated what unity can do. We had joint broad-based candidates… That is why we won,” President Ruto said.

Earlier in Masalani, the President presided over a series of development launches, including the official opening of Yusuf Haji Girls Secondary School, the handover of a school bus, and the laying of a foundation stone for the second phase of the school’s expansion.

Ruto also launched the construction of 376 housing units under the Ijara Affordable Housing Project. He announced that the government would build 32 additional classrooms in nearby schools to accommodate families expected to settle in the upcoming estate.

In the health sector, the Head of State revealed plans to upgrade Masalani Hospital and establish a Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) campus in Ijara, saying the initiatives would improve access to healthcare and create new training opportunities for young people.

Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale applauded the President’s continued focus on the region, saying the government had “restored the dignity of North Eastern residents” by improving access to essential services and national documents.

The event was attended by a host of senior government officials and political leaders, among them Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, Governors Nathif Jama Adam and Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir, and Senators Oburu Odinga and Ledama Olekina.

The leaders pledged continued support for the government’s development agenda, noting that the projects launched would have lasting impact on education, housing and healthcare in the region.
