PS Susan Auma Mang’eni Inspects NYOTA Project Business Training in Busia Ahead of Official Launch

Principal Secretary, State Department for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Development, Susan Auma Mang’eni, today conducted an inspection of the ongoing Business Skills Training for beneficiaries of the NYOTA Project from Matayos Constituency, Busia County. The training is being held at the Busia Youth Polytechnic as part of the Department’s preparations for the official launch of the NYOTA Project scheduled for 7th November 2025.

Busia County is part of the Western Cluster, which also includes Kakamega, Bungoma, and Vihiga Counties. The Business Skills Training forms a critical component of the NYOTA Project, aimed at empowering beneficiaries with entrepreneurial knowledge and practical skills necessary to successfully implement income-generating activities.

The training precedes the first disbursement of Ksh. 25,000 to each beneficiary, which is set to commence in November 2025. Thereafter, beneficiaries will participate in a four-month mentorship program, during which they will be linked to local business ecosystems and economic opportunities to enhance sustainability and growth.

The mentorship phase will be implemented in collaboration with strategic partners, including the Youth Enterprise Development Fund, Uwezo Fund, Kenya Industrial Estates, and the Kenya Jobs and Economic Transformation Project (KJET), among others.

Speaking during the inspection, PS Mang’eni reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening the MSME sector through targeted training, access to finance, and structured mentorship.

“The NYOTA Project is designed to unlock the potential of our small enterprises by equipping young entrepreneurs with the tools, knowledge, and financial support they need to thrive. This is about empowering our people to create sustainable livelihoods and drive economic growth from the grassroots,” she said.

The Principal Secretary was accompanied by Busia County Commissioner Mwachaunga Chaunga and officials from the implementing agencies overseeing the NYOTA Project rollout
