ODM acting party leader Oburu Oginga has dismissed speculation surrounding Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja’s affiliation with the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), confirming that the governor is not a member of the party.

Speaking during an interview aired on NTV, Oburu addressed ongoing debates about ODM’s internal cohesion and future leadership ahead of the 2027 General Election.“Governor Sakaja is not a member of ODM,” Oburu stated firmly, seeking to put to rest the swirling rumours about Sakaja’s political alignment.

The long-serving politician used the interview to reaffirm his commitment to fostering youth inclusion within the party, singling out Embakasi East MP Babu Owino as a key figure in ODM’s next generation of leadership.

“I would like to bring Babu Owino closer and make him feel comfortable in the ODM Party,” Oburu said, dismissing suggestions that the youthful lawmaker had been sidelined.

A meeting between Oburu and Babu Owino at Oburu’s Nairobi office earlier this week was interpreted as a strategic effort to quell internal discontent and demonstrate ODM’s commitment to nurturing young leaders.

Following their discussions, Oburu praised Babu’s drive and influence, describing him as a “symbol of the party’s future.”

“Hon. Babu Owino represents the vibrant energy and determination of our youth. He has a promising future, and we are together. Strong,” Oburu later posted on social media.

Oburu also reassured Babu of a fair and transparent nomination process should he vie for the Nairobi gubernatorial seat on an ODM ticket.

“Let him not run away from the party. If he wins the ODM nomination, he will get the ticket without bias,” he affirmed.
