Mudavadi Defends Raila, Says ODM Has Never Sought Power Unconstitutionally

Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has defended Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga, asserting that neither he nor his party has ever attempted to seize power through unconstitutional means.
Speaking during a public engagement, Mudavadi praised Raila for consistently advocating lawful and structured approaches during political crises in the country.
“Raila and ODM have never, to the best of my knowledge, tried to take power through unconstitutional means. He would always say we must find a legal way of dealing with this crisis,” Mudavadi said.
His remarks come amid ongoing national discussions around political stability, governance, and respect for the rule of law. Mudavadi highlighted Raila’s role in shaping Kenya’s democratic processes, particularly during tense election periods when the nation risked division.
“Raila’s insistence on legal and institutional solutions — whether through the courts or through negotiated reforms — has contributed significantly to maintaining national cohesion,” Mudavadi added. He said this adherence to the Constitution should serve as an example for all political actors, especially in a period marked by accusations and counter-accusations over power struggles.
Mudavadi also called on political leaders to exercise responsibility in their public engagements, warning that reckless statements could undermine Kenya’s progress in strengthening democratic institutions. He emphasized that dialogue prioritizing national unity must take precedence over political rivalry.
