MTRH, NTSA Lead Commemoration of World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims
Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) on Sunday joined the global community in marking the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims, an event dedicated to honoring people killed or injured in road crashes and acknowledging the suffering of affected families.
The commemoration, held in partnership with the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA), the National Police Service, the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA), and several driving schools, brought together survivors, families of victims, road-safety advocates, and hospital staff.
Activities began with a solemn candle-lighting ceremony at the MTRH Emergency Department, where attendees paid tribute to lives lost on the road. The emotional tribute highlighted the human toll of traffic-related tragedies and underscored the need for sustained action to reduce preventable deaths.
After the ceremony, participants took part in a processional march from the Emergency Department to the TAC Centre at Central Primary School in Eldoret. The walk symbolized a united commitment toward advocacy, awareness, and the promotion of safer roads for all users.
Speaking during the event, officials emphasized the importance of strengthened multi-agency collaboration, improved enforcement of traffic regulations, and increased public compliance with road-safety measures. They also called for heightened investment in prevention strategies, including education, road engineering improvements, and emergency response capacity.
MTRH and its partners reaffirmed their dedication to reducing road traffic injuries and fatalities, noting that the annual observance serves as both a reminder of the lives lost and a motivation to work toward safer roads across the country.
