Luo Community Reaffirms Commitment to Broad-Based Government, Says KANU Vice Chairman
KANU Vice Chairman Kephas Ochieng has reaffirmed the Luo community’s commitment to the Broad-Based Government established by the late Rt. Hon. Raila Amollo Odinga.
Speaking on Monday, Ochieng said the community stands united in supporting the governance framework, which he described as key to regional and national development.
However, he acknowledged that counties retain the right to make independent political decisions. “It is within the democratic rights of the people of Siaya County, led by Governor James Orengo and his team, to reassess their participation,” Ochieng said.
He clarified that despite Siaya County’s autonomy, the counties of Kisumu, Homa Bay, and Migori will continue collaborating within the Broad-Based Government framework until 2032.
“This continuity is essential for maintaining political stability and advancing development in the region,” Ochieng added.
Political analysts note that his remarks come amid speculation about possible shifts in alliances within Luo Nyanza, signaling efforts to reassure the community of ongoing unity.
Ochieng urged leaders across the region to prioritize dialogue and cohesion, saying that unity remains the Luo community’s greatest political asset.
