By Jepleting Faith
Kenya’s rising golf star Njoroge Kibugu produced a sensational comeback to clinch victory in the seventh leg of the Sunshine Tour held at Vetlab Sports Club in Nairobi on Sunday.
Kibugu, who began the final round two shots off the lead, delivered a composed and confident performance on the back nine—sinking crucial birdies that saw him overtake seasoned contender John Wangai. The 21-year-old sealed the win in thrilling fashion before an ecstatic home crowd made up of family, fans, and fellow golfers.
“It feels incredible to win here at home,” an elated Kibugu said after the victory. “I stayed patient and trusted my swing even when I was two shots behind. The support from the fans really pushed me to fight till the end.”
The victory marks another major milestone for the young golfer, whose steady rise through the ranks has positioned him among Kenya’s most promising golf talents.
“This gives me confidence to keep improving and represent Kenya well in future tournaments,” he added.
Runner-up John Wangai hailed Kibugu’s resilience and composure under pressure.
“He played fantastic golf, especially on the back nine. He truly deserved the win,” Wangai said.
The Vetlab event attracted top regional golfers, and Kibugu’s triumph not only earned him local acclaim but also reinforced his growing status on the regional golf scene.
