IIA, EACC Back New E-Procurement System to Boost Transparency and Fight Corruption

The Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) and the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) have thrown their weight behind the government’s newly launched e-procurement system, hailing it as a major step toward enhancing transparency, accountability, and efficiency in public spending.

Speaking during a joint forum in Nairobi, EACC Deputy Chief Executive Officer Abdi Mohamud described the system as a milestone in the fight against corruption within public institutions.

“For years, procurement has been one of the most abused sectors. By going digital, we eliminate room for manipulation and ensure every transaction can be traced,” Mohamud said. He added that automating procurement processes will help close loopholes that have long been exploited by corrupt officials.

“Digitisation means fewer face-to-face interactions, less paperwork, and therefore fewer chances for bribery or collusion,” he noted.

IIA Kenya Chairperson Rose Mwasia lauded the new system as a game changer in strengthening internal controls and promoting ethical practices in public finance management.

“This platform allows internal auditors to track procurement processes in real time. It enhances accountability and promotes transparency in how public resources are used,” Mwasia said.

She urged all public institutions to adopt the system fully, emphasizing that technology is key to fostering integrity in governance. “We must accept that integrity and technology go hand in hand. The e-procurement system will restore public confidence in how we manage resources,” she added.

The government plans to roll out the e-procurement system across all ministries, county governments, and state agencies by next year, as part of broader reforms aimed at curbing corruption and improving service delivery.
